G Progression - Electric guitar I Print E-mail

First of all, I want to make sure you agree with me. In most of praise and worship settings, especially in a small church, electric guitar provides just rhythm about 90% of the time. I can't imagine electric guitar going off shredding a fantastic solo. I use a lot of power chords, arpeggios, and triads. I think this helps and benefits the band and congregation. Enough said, G progression; this is one of my favorite and most used progression.

A lot of praise songs are in key of G (G - D2/F# - Em7 - C2), guitarist's favorite key, this progression is a good place to start. In most cases I try to stay in one place because I am lazy. My left hand stays on the 3rd fret and I use my right hand to arpeggio.

Here is how it looks like on the fret.

You could vary your right hand picking for different songs. For songs in G, if I don't know where to start, I start from this progression.
